GPRS Performs Investigative Concrete Analysis for Reinforcement Mapping - Chicago, IL
A contractor investigating the structural components of a grocery store building in Downtown Chicago contacted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems of Chicago for concrete scanning. The contractor hoped to find valuable information about the reinforcing of the floor in the back of the building in order to saw cut and reroute the conduits. Because they inquired that GPRS came out and scanned, they can be more comfortable and confident in their future saw cutting.
GPRS scanning assists contractors by giving them a real time view of the reinforcing and conduit layout helping them to know where they can cut and it can help in reducing the likelihood of subsurface obstruction strikes during drilling, cutting, trenching, anchoring and other sub-surface applications. Additionally, scanning can save valuable time by targeting specific anomalies/reinforcing to be uncovered and provide depth and location as well as information about the surrounding concrete. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems uses the latest GSSI Sir-3000 technology in locating critical reinforcing in the slab. The radar emits radiation less than 1% of that found to be emitted by standard cell phones. This means practically no hazardous radiation to operators or persons above or below the work zone. Our system assists in the confirmation process of locating anomalies. Along with the GSSI Sir-3000 technology, GPRS uses the RD-8000 Locator to locate live power and RF signals underground. We can also detect utilities in/under concrete via induction or conduction with an exposed or known surface utility line. This is all done in a safe, time efficient, non-destructive way.
